Should I upgrade my PC or buy new?
Ok, this is what I am looking at
I have an older PC with a Motherboard, an AMD Athlon 64 CPU, and Windows XP. Due to viruses I am forced to buy Windows 7 in order to full repair it (to restore it as is would cost more) But before I drop the money for Windows 7, I took a look online to see if It would be worth it to just buy new. This is the specs and price of the machine that I am looking at

Total Cost: $529
Compare that with the upgrades that I am considering
320 GB hard drive
2 GB DDR2 RAM
Win7 home premium
Nvidia 9800GT
total cost: 443
So basically, aside from a few differences, the main decider is whether or not a Intel E8400 Dual-Core is 120 dollars more in value to an Athlon 64
If you were in my shoes, which would you pick?

The newer spec is more than just a better processor. The new machine will run much quicker than your existing system and, of course, all the parts are new. Newer Mother Boards and bigger power supplies make a difference. Personally, I’d go with the $529 system.
Not quite sure why you don’t like Win XP. True W7 is more secure but XP is going to be supported for approx another 10 years and as MS’ most popular OS to date is a good platform. That said, if you can get a new PC and W7 for the right price then go for it.
