Shoes Of Prey

Why does my dog eat soil?
My 6 month old whippet has a habit of eating the dried mud that collects on the bottom of your shoes, it has never been a big problem but over the weekend she came in and sicked up a huge amount of soil from the garden.
My dogs are fed on a RAW Prey Model diet (muscle meat/organs/bones and fish)
My other dog doesn’t do this, does anyone know why she is? I wondered if it could be lacking something in her diet that she is trying to substitute… but what?!?
Are you certain about what she’s getting into? Cats do their biz. in the soil, anybody’s soil and my guess is, your shoe soil apart, if she’s been into the garden soil, she may just have been after that (although you’ll soon find out, from her breath). Also my hounds have eaten soil from the garden centre – after the bone-meal that is sometimed added to basic potting soil. When a dog goes for something abnormal, it does sometimes mean they are looking for something that’s lacking in their diet, and this can be an individual ‘lacking’. I’d check your raw diet to make sure you are including all that’s needed for a balanced diet too.
