Why do men’s dress shoes have heels?
Here’s a question asked to me by a 6 year old but not in so many words: Is there any practical reason for men’s dress shoes to have the “boot-like” raised heel?
The heel-strike is the most forceful part of the process of taking a step. Traditional shoes with leather heels/soles wear out fast there, and it’s a lot cheaper to replace the heels than the whole shoes.
