popular clothing styles for 2009
What are some examples of Northeastern America style clothing for men and women?
I am working on another novel about a girl who moves from a small town south of Portland, Maine, to Cedar Park, Texas, right off of Austin. At some point in my book, the main character notices the difference in clothing between the Southern style and New England style. I live in Texas, and I know what the style is here, i.e. cowboy boots mixed with casual, denim, plaid, etc. But, I have never been to New England. I was curious as to what type of clothing is popular there? Like I know in the Northwest (like Washington state area) plaid is a very popular style. Could you provide a few examples of styles popular in New England?
Bear in mind that this is taken place in 2009, and the main character is in high school.

I wouldn’t say new englanders have a specific style, of course it varies, but as a girl in high school near portland I can say that for the most part we dress preppy. J crew, tommy hilfinger, ralph lauren, abercrombie (blah), etc. And wear a lot of sweaters/cardigans/ layers in the winter. Flannels are popular for both girls and guys and in my town (pretty affluent) designer labels are pretty common (its high school after all so of course kids flash em) but so are sweats. Umm, boots/scarfs are big (as in our ridiculously cold/snowy winters) and every girl older than 10 owns a pair of uggs, or fuggs. Sooo yeh not so much a uniform style…. hope it helps thou
