Barefoot vs shoes vs boots?
So I want to do some endurance and competitive trail events. And just trail riding in general. I am very keeping horses barefoot (less horses w / certain problems.) But I worry about the wear of the hooves. So I was thinking of stepping into the boots. Also, some horses that I have found are used to wearing shoes, it could transition to hoof instead of boots (granted no problems)? All opinions are welcome. Thanks!
I am in favor of bare feet. Studies have shown the hooves to be healthier without shoes. Things old die hard and people say their hooves can not be used on rough terrain. They can. Watch the wild horses in the western desert. My horses are barefoot and I can ride on gravel roads. They build up calluses and tough. I can see some uses may require shoes. When horses are working in abusive conditions of their helmets. In general people are increasingly taking their horses go barefoot.
